I am going to try and liven up my old-ish hyper which seems to be lacking a bit of power. I will change the piston ring and was wondering if you think it’s worth changing the piston as well? Thanks Simon |

Hi. I thought I would mention the West 50 H engine to every one who finds this post. This engine is put together using bascially Webra engine parts, modified by Western UK for a higher performance. Now, Sceadu Abuser took the plunge some years back and bought one for his Sceadu. Problem was (and apparently still is) that when purchasing one of these, Western staff inform you that you need to use their fuel and if not, the warrenty is void. Well every one that I have heard of until Sceadu abuser, has had bad experiences with this engine and all that I heard of used their Western fuel. BIG MISTAKE. Trust me guys, if you have a 50 heli, want more power than the OS50 hyper, sick of changing back bearings and want a good reliable engine, BUY THE WEST 50H. BUT. initially ensure you use cool power 15% to 30%. Use their glow plug, OS8 or enya 3 as these all work brilliantly. The enya does tend to only last a few weeks before it goes off a bit. Western for some reason that is beyond me, have raised the timing of the exhaust port on the latest engine. A member of our club bought the west and it was appauling. We found the liner etc was different. I then found mine was also this new version. I had installed mine so I sent mine back to Western as did this other guy and Western kindly changed the internals to the previous version. FANTASTIC GUYS.. truley. So what I am trying to do is say that if you want a 50 engine that has more power than the OS with no back bearing issues, buy the West. 1: Ask for the "eye brow" version and don't accept the higher ported new version. 2: Use cool power initially as we know it works brilliantly with those carbs etc. 3: USE THEIR EXHAUST as it does give the most power and the best match (we have tried others). hi there i am using wildcat 30%3dlv fuel at the moment and fancy trying something different, i am not a millionaire so coolpower is a bit expensive for me what would anyone recommend?also i am only flying circuits and doing to odd loop and roll so do i really need to use 30% would 20% be ok, is there a big difference between 30 and 20? (.confused.) the engine is a ys 50 st with mp5 exhaust thanks all alex |

Hi. A member of MHC (Alex) has found a dealer in the UK claiming to be able to sell the YS 50 in the Uk now. I can't see a price but I did find an interesting point of view, that they have put on their website.(Quote)YS engines are the very best engine product, but the product can occasionally be hampered by the person who owns it. YS is used by the worlds competition fliers & fliers who want the best performance!, we would like to point out that common sense & ability to operate engines are a qualification needed before buying a YS engine! (/Quote)I find that in interesting comment as I have found that my YS91's have been rather easier to set up and far more consistent than any of my OS or Webras of the past. Almost quite the contry to Probuilds comments really. Si |

HI. I thought I would share my current findings with you regarding the OS91 SZ Hring PS-Hyper in one of my Millenniums. I bought this engine approx 2 months ago. It was recommended that I also buy the Hatori 939 Muffler to suit it. From the outset this combination appeared not to be working too well.. Initially it is difficult to tell as the engine has to be ran in for a period of time, setting it to run very rich and not working the helicopter too much. Once I felt the engine could be correctly set the problems began to appear. I simply could not get this engine to run consistently. I used the recommended OS8 plug with Cool power 30, and then started to try other combinations. I basically had definite rich to lean problems when going from full to low tank and when off loading the engine, it would break rich. Yet when worked it would occasionally sound harsh. A good balance simply could not be found. I did add the supplied head shims as this was recommended when using the 30% nitro. Different plugs did not improve things and neither did trying different nitro contents or fuel brands. The other day, I found a spanking new Muscle Pipe 2 (90) in my heli stuff.I decided to remove the Hatori and fit this Muscle pipe and give it another last go. WOW what a difference a pipe makes!!!. As I started it up, the first thing I noticed was the much softer more pleasant tone. My Hatori has a more "barky" tone to it. When I lifted the machine off, I found it was now running considerably richer than before. I leaned the carb by as much as one full turn, untill it ran smooth in the hover and proceaded to fly it about a bit. I expected the mid rich problem and general uneven running to prevale but to be surprise this had gone too. Power was good and the engine ran so consistently. Like whats going on here? I flew from full to empty tank with no appreciable change in overall mixture. I am gob smacked at the difference between the Hatori 939 and the Muscle pipe 90 with this engine. In fact it went so well, that I began to bash the aileron metronomes in to appreciate the available power, only to take yet another clutch shoe out in flight. Millenniums still don't tend to like the aileron frame flexing even with the extra carbon stiffner plates. So there you go.. Some apparently use Kline mods on this engine and others might be trying the new csm mixture control that is still under pre production test. I thought I was going to have to try these alternatives, until I stumbled on the above. If you have uneven running of the OS91 SZ Hring PS-Hyper, perhaps you might try a Muscle pipe 2 pipe and see if that works better for you too. Simon. |

Hi all, i had a problem with my ys 91 on wednesday, it started to run really lean and cut out, i found out that there was air bubbles in the fuel line(i could see them) so i disconnected the fuel line and pumped some fuel through to try and get rid of the air blockage. This seemed to work and the engine began to run ok again, Does anyone know if this is the right way to get rid of a blockage or is there a different way to do it? also what causes air blockages and how can you prevent them.thanks alex |
