Cyclone 2 Thread.Kalt on Model-Helicopters.ComKalt sadly closed their model helicopter production many years ago. Spare have become rare as have good condition examples of their model helicopters.
If you have a kalt helicopter, used to or still do fly one, lets hear all about it and discuss together online.

Well, this cyclone2, I picked up for 70. OS50 of the past with old servos. What a mess though. I am nearly finished restoring the old Kalt Omega Pro so intend to move onto this new project next.
If any one has a busted old Cyclone or one in half decent condition, or just some bits and bobs, let me know as I might be interested.

I intend in time to have this cyclone two restored to good condition and flying real sweet around the sky as they used to do some 20 years back.

When I get a mo, I will take some photos of it as it is.. (nasty) and then post some as it changes..
Si smilie

We intended to go flying this afternoon, but after finding the wind a bit "brisk" and "cold" we decided to give the new Vintage Cyclone project a start.

I found in the attic some original yellow Kalt fins and a pair of plastic kalt tail blades in the shed. Thanks for Midland Helicopters, I managed to get hold of a load of the original White kalt links. The ones on the heli were either yellow or inpregnated with dirt etc.

Lots of scrubbing has began to show a pretty good condition example of yester years 50-60 sized beginners machine.

The motor is a mess, but will run i think once re assembled. So I intend to try that engine with the exhaust it came with just to get it in the air. Basic old radio gear has been scrapped up, still using the nastiest of old cheapo rubbish servos. But they move when the sticks do so it has to be worth a laugh.

Pics as it stands now.

I had put the cyclone to the side for a few weeks, but today decided to finish off the basics and try to get it up and running in the garden.

The engine fired up pretty well and ran sweet which is a bonus for such an ancient engine. It sure has a few issued to sort out but for an initial hover around it was promising.

An update during mid May 2009.
I managed to find some parts on the net from all different sources. All were second hand and from damaged or broken up helis.

You can see from these final photos that the boom is now black, which is the original tapered glass fibre Kalt boom and I managed to find a genuine Cyclone one canopy. A few other mods to original have been done like the pitch mechanism has been reverted back to standard.
One other aspect is the radio. I managed to find a still in the box vintage Sanwa heli radio set and quest mechanical gyro. All fitted and working.
Obviously it does not fly anything like modern machines but for someone who started with one of these over 25 years ago, it does have almost sentimental value and pleasure to own and fly.

If you are a long time pilot, why not consider trying to get one of your first models in as new condition and all original. It's a challenge and rather good fun as an addition to flying your modern helicopters. smilie

How about correlating your pictures and the various sections of this restoration into one article so I can include it on the vrhc site......
